This work draws inspiration from the inherent internal challenges that arise when individuals persist in environments that stifle personal growth.
In this painting, three distinct elements converge to convey the sadness resulting from darkness pervading one’s sense of self:
1) The Darkness: covering the majority of the canvas, the darkness represents the parts of the self commonly associated with sin, evil, and tragedy. When inner darkness remains repressed and unacknowledged, it leads to an imbalance of the self.
2) The Blue: The segmentation between black and blue is meant to symbolize that the true source of nutrition for the flower is just out of reach and what is left behind is the sadness of the water’s color blue.
3) The Flower: Unlike a flower in bloom, one lacking nutrition and living in the darkness will only feel blue.
