Inspired by and created during the COVID pandemic, this painting is meant to symbolize the loss of identity and self-context in personal relationships. The “Familiar Faces” are the ones we know but find exceedingly difficult to relate and connect with due to being in the “Unfamiliar Place” of the color blue, representing the deep sadness stemming from the isolation and lack of human connection. I firmly believe interactions with other individuals serve the important purpose of granting us opportunities to make choices and reiterate our sense of self. Without an understanding of the self, it can become next to impossible to recognize and relate to others beyond the surface level.
